Ama Pratt urges NPP to face facts, not spin, as Party works to regain public trust

Ama Pratt urges the NPP to focus on facts and transparency as it works to rebuild public trust following electoral setbacks.

Ama Pratt, spokesperson for the Vice President, has called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to be honest with Ghanaians as it seeks to rebuild public confidence following its recent electoral defeat.

Speaking on GHToday with Lilly Mohammed on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, Pratt stressed that discussions about the party’s standing must be grounded in facts rather than spin or social media applause.

Referring to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s performance in the NPP flagbearership contests, Pratt highlighted a decline in support, noting that Dr. Bawumia secured 61.47% in his previous contest compared with 56% in the most recent race.

“He has dropped. His popularity has dropped within his party,” Pratt said, adding that such realities should be acknowledged openly. “When we have these conversations, we stick to the facts. We say them as it is.”

She argued that the decline should be viewed in the context of the NPP’s loss in the December 2024 general elections, which naturally led to a dip in the party’s overall popularity. According to Pratt, addressing this situation requires deliberate efforts to restore confidence among voters.

Welcoming comments by the former Minister for Information, Kojo Opong Nkrumah, on the need for the NPP to intentionally win back Ghanaians’ trust, Pratt said she shared that sentiment but emphasised that such efforts must begin with honesty.

“A party that is grappling for the trust of its citizens should start from the truth,” she said, urging party communicators to avoid managing narratives for applause or chasing social media trends. “Ghanaians know the truth. Ghanaians see the truth. So lead with the truth. Come to us with the truth, practically.”
