Three people have been critically injured after a group of over 50 suspected land guards stormed Gomoa Maim in the Gomoa West District of the Central Region during celebrations over a chieftaincy ruling.
The attack occurred when residents were reportedly jubilating at the chief’s palace, following a decision in a chieftaincy dispute, when the armed group allegedly arrived with guns, cutlasses, and sticks, and began attacking and vandalising property.
According to the Ebusuapanyin of Gomoa Maim, Kofi Botwey, the assailants destroyed sound systems and parts of the palace, leaving the community in fear and panic.
He called for urgent intervention from the Central Regional Police Command, the Central Regional Minister, and the Inspector-General of Police to restore security in the area.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers emerged from the Kasoa area and opened fire, forcing residents to flee for safety during the chaos.
The violence left three people injured, who are currently receiving treatment at the Esuohyia Hospital.
Residents say the entire community remains tense, with fears of further attacks as investigations continue. No arrests have been made so far.
