The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) says it is ready to appear before Parliament to account for its financial and operational performance amid claims by the Minority linking the institution to losses under the Domestic Gold Purchase Programme (DGPP).
Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi, issued the challenge on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, saying the institution had nothing to hide and was prepared to subject its operations to parliamentary scrutiny.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series, Mr. Gyamfi challenged Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin to invite him before Parliament to substantiate the allegations against GoldBod.
“The GoldBod is serving this nation dutifully and conscientiously and we have nothing to hide. Let me reiterate my challenge to Afenyo Markin that I am ready any day and time to appear before any committee of Parliament to discuss the operational and financial health of the GoldBod.”
The challenge follows a press conference by the Minority on Tuesday, August 18, where Afenyo-Markin raised concerns about GoldBod’s financial performance and its alleged connection to the US$1.7 billion loss recorded by the Bank of Ghana under the DGPP in 2025.
The Minority has argued that the reported loss, equivalent to about GH¢22 billion, amounts to a financial loss to the Republic and must be accounted for.
GoldBod has rejected the claims, insisting that its audited 2025 financial statements show an operational surplus of GH¢907 million and an overall surplus of more than GH¢5.4 billion.
Mr. Gyamfi said a parliamentary hearing would provide an opportunity for the claims against GoldBod to be properly tested and the institution’s records examined.
“Let no one seek to obfuscate this important challenge by roping in the Bank of Ghana. Mr. Afenyo Markin, you claim the GoldBod has made losses. You also claim that the GoldBod is responsible for the losses of the Bank of Ghana, we are waiting for your invitation to appear before Parliament for you to substantiate this claims.”
He maintained that GoldBod was prepared to account for its stewardship and respond to questions about its financial health before the appropriate parliamentary committee.
The GoldBod CEO also reiterated that the institution would remain focused on its mandate despite the ongoing controversy.
“The GoldBod will remain focused on its mandate. We will continue to account transparently for our stewardship. And we will not be distracted from the important work of creating value for the Ghanaian people from the exploitation of the gold resources of our beloved nation.”
