Manhyia South MP and lawyer, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, reportedly resisted an attempt by officials of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to arrest him at the Accra High Court on Wednesday.
The incident occurred while the MP was at the court to represent Salomey Awity Baffoe, who is facing an alleged abetment charge in connection with the controversial Ghana Jollof TikTok account.
According to videos from the scene, EOCO officials approached the MP and asked him to accompany them. He declined and directed the officials to communicate with Parliament and the Speaker, Alban Bagbin.
Sources cited in connection with the incident said the MP had not received any prior invitation from EOCO and questioned the basis for the attempted arrest.
The development comes amid the MP’s vocal defence of Baffoe, whose arrest and prosecution have generated public debate.
Baffoe, a senior nursing officer, was arrested over alleged links to the operator of the Ghana Jollof TikTok account.
Her lawyer has previously described the circumstances of her arrest as an “abduction”, arguing that authorities did not follow due process in taking her into custody.
The reasons for EOCO’s reported attempt to arrest the MP remain unclear. It is also yet to be established whether the agency had formally invited him or what specific offence it intended to question or arrest him over.
