Former Legal Counsel to the President, Kow Abaka Essuman, has formally submitted his expression of interest to contest the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary primary in the Ablekuma West Constituency.
In a statement issued on Saturday, 7 November 2026, Mr Essuman, who said the date coincides with his birthday, informed party members and the general public of his decision.
He said the move followed broad consultations within the party and with his family, as well as prayer.
“I will continue to abide by the directives of the Party, including the directive issued on October 11, 2026, and await the Party’s timetable and guidelines for the parliamentary process,” he stated.
Mr Essuman thanked the party’s leadership and members, as well as his family and friends, for their continued support.
Mr Essuman served as Legal Counsel to former President Nana Akufo-Addo. He has been engaging NPP members in Ablekuma West in recent months, expressing confidence that the party will reclaim the seat in the 2028 general election.
The NPP lost the constituency to the NDC’s Rev. Kweku Addo in the 2024 general election, ending a run in which the party had held the seat since the constituency was created.
The party has yet to announce the timetable and guidelines for its parliamentary primaries.
