The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has called for Africa’s gold resources to be used to finance the continent’s transformation, create jobs for young people and deliver greater benefits to mining communities.
He said Africa must move beyond exporting gold to global markets and ensure that the wealth generated from its mineral resources translates into sustainable economic opportunities for its people.
Speaking at the African Minerals Policy Centre’s 2026 Mining in Motion Forum (AMPF-MiM 2026), Mr Gyamfi stressed the need for Africa to take greater responsibility for ensuring that its natural resource wealth benefits current and future generations.
“But when all is said and done, my brothers and sisters, Africa’s gold must do more than glitter in global markets. It must finance Africa’s transformation, create dignified work for our young people and a fair share of benefits for mining communities,” he said.

He further called for the continent’s gold wealth to be treated as a legacy that would create lasting opportunities for generations to come.
“Above all, it must become a living inheritance, transforming the world beneath our soil into enduring opportunity for generations yet unborn,” he added.
Mr Gyamfi emphasised that the responsibility for ensuring that Africa benefits meaningfully from its mineral resources rested with the continent itself.
“The gold is ours, the responsibility is ours. The moment is ours,” he said.

He urged African countries to work towards building an economy in which the prosperity generated from the continent’s natural resources would translate into tangible benefits for its people.
“Let us build an Africa in which the prosperity created from African resources is finally visibly and unmistakably African,” he said.
