The Chief Executive Officer of Ashanti Green Initiative, Oheneba Nana Kwaku Duah, has honoured the late Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed and seven others who died in the August 2025 military helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region.
Speaking at the African Minerals Policy Centre’s 2026 Mining in Motion Forum (AMPF-MiM 2026), Mr Duah requested a minute of silence in memory of the eight victims.
He recalled the contribution of Dr Mohammed, who served as Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, to the success of the previous edition of the forum.
“Last year we were privileged enough to have with us the late Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, who played such a pivotal role in making Mining in Motion a success,” he said.
Mr Duah said the news of Dr Mohammed’s death had deeply affected him and that he had made a personal commitment to honour the late minister and the other victims when the forum reconvened.
“Following his death, I vowed to honour him and the seven others who died whenever I speak about efforts to combat illegal mining in Ghana,” he added.
The Ashanti Green Initiative CEO subsequently appealed to dignitaries at the forum to observe a minute of silence in honour of the deceased.
“With your kind permission, your excellencies, may I request humbly a minute of silence in honour of Hon. Murtala Mohammed and the seven others who lost their lives in the tragic…” he said.
