Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey Santana, Deputy CEO of Marketing and Special Duties at the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), has acknowledged the role of the previous GTA leadership in establishing the framework for the now-expanded December in GH initiative.
Speaking on Starr Showbiz with Feeling Daddy on Starr 103.5 FM on Saturday, November 6, 2025, Abeiku Santana said the foundation laid by the previous administration has helped Ghana become “a converging point of Christmas festivity in Africa.” He noted that initiatives such as December in Ghana have transformed the country into a hub where festivals of art, fashion, music, concerts, and culture attract visitors from across the continent.
“Ghana has become a melting point where festivals of art, fashion, music, concert, culture… come together. We give credit to the previous administration for laying a solid foundation with December in GH or December in Ghana,” Abeiku said.
He explained that December in Ghana is now more than just a festive season for leisure. This year, the country will host the Diaspora Summit, an investment-focused event that complements the series of cultural and creative experiences available across the country during the period. According to Abeiku, this expansion has made December the biggest season for inbound visitors, offering a unique combination of cultural immersion and heritage site visits.

Highlighting the GTA’s promotional efforts, Abeiku shared that over 300 events have been scheduled nationwide, including three-day carnivals in Akosombo and major festive activities in Takoradi, Tamale, and other towns. “You need to activate experiences around the site attractions so that visitors who come will have a great experience, what we call immersive experience, not just going to the site,” he explained.
Abeiku Santana also emphasised the government’s role in facilitating international travel, particularly noting the introduction of a direct flight from Atlanta to Accra. “For the past 13 years, there was no direct flight from Accra to Atlanta. By the grace of God and the leadership of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, we are now getting this direct flight, which will reduce travel time and cost,” he said, stressing how such interventions support tourism revenue and growth.
Through these initiatives, Abeiku Santana believes that December in GH continues to grow, building on the efforts of previous GTA administrations while creating immersive, economically impactful experiences for both Ghanaians and international visitors.
