North Tongu Member of Parliament, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has questioned President Akufo-Addo’s letter approving a sole-sourced contract for Ghana’s 5G technology project without open competitive process.
In a post on social media platform X dated May 31, 2024, Ablakwa also questioned the transparency and accountability of the process.
Ablakwa criticized the decision to award the contract to Next Gen Infraco without opening it to competitive bidding, a move he deems critical for such significant infrastructure.
“President Akufo-Addo owes Ghanaians an explanation on how he selected his 5G private investors and technology partners without an open competitive process,” Ablakwa stated.
The MP further highlighted the absence of parliamentary scrutiny for the deal, questioning why such a landmark transaction bypassed bipartisan examination.
“Why was this landmark transaction not subjected to Parliament for bipartisan scrutiny?” he asked.
Ablakwa’s post culminated in a rhetorical query about the obligations of future governments regarding the contract.
“Is the next NDC government expected to respect all the hidden terms of this 10-year sweetheart deal?” he pondered, expressing dissatisfaction with the perceived lack of transparency and potential long-term implications of the agreement.
