Ablekuma West NDC PC graces Presby Church’s Kente Cultural Day in grand style

Rev Kweku Addo, the Parliamentary Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of the Ablekuma West Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, graciously took part in a colourful cultural event beautifully organised by the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG).

The cultural day, which the Presby Church dubbed “Kente Day Celebration”, which was under the theme: Embracing “Our Culture and Our Heritage”, came off on 27th August, 2023, at the Priscilla Congregation at Gbegbeyise in the Dansoman District of the Church in the national capital of Ghana.

The much-anticipated Kente Day Celebration has become a biennial event in the history of the PCG, and the Priscilla Congregation marked the day in grand style that attracted dignitaries across the socio-political and business divides.

Spotted amongst the great personalities present at the event by our scout were some of the leading figures of the NDC in the Ablekuma West Constituency who clad in their beautiful traditional Kente Cloth.

Some of the dignitaries the scout further zoomed in on included Rev Kweku Addo, who received an overwhelming endorsement from his party members to stand again as a 2024 parliamentary candidate, Mrs Dina Twum, the former PC of the NDC and the immediate past NDC parliamentary candidate hopeful, Mrs Mariam Korkor Aryeetey. They were ably supported by some of the Constituency Executives in the past and current administration including Charles Bennin and Jacquiline Lovely Armah

The main speaker, Mrs Twum, commended the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, especially the Priscilla Congregation in the Dansoman District for organising a great cultural show. The obviously elated former PC hailed the Ghanaian culture as a rich heritage that needs to be protected jealously.

In his brief speech, the NDC Parliamentary Candidate of Ablekuma West Constituency touched on unity and cohesion as instruments for rapid development of a nation. Rev Kweku Addo urged Ghanaians, especially the people of Ablekuma West to askew tribalism and hate speech in “our political discourse of the country. It does not attract competent people to join us in building our communities”.

The Kente Day celebration has become a cherished tradition for the Priscilla Congregation that offers a platform to celebrate the nation’s unique cultural heritage. The church also used the occasion to raise funds, which amounted to about Ghȼ11,000.00.

The highlight of the celebration was preceded by a special church service, where the ecstatic congregants were adorned in exclusive Ghanaian attire, particularly the iconic Kente cloth. The service also featured melodious traditional Ghanaian hymns and prayers, emphasizing the importance of cultural preservation and unity.

The Catchiest In-Charge of the Priscilla Congregation, George Odame, expressed his excitement about the celebration, saying, “Our culture is a source of pride and identity. This event reminds us of the importance of preserving our traditions for future generations. Kente Day is a time when we proudly display the beauty of our culture through the colorful and intricate Kente cloth but not limited to it – any indigenous attire is highly welcome. It’s a moment to unite as a community and appreciate the rich tapestry of Ghana’s traditions.”
