Female inmates of the Nsawam Prison have benefitted from a breast cancer screening exercise as part of the Breast Cancer Awareness Month being observed worldwide.
The exercise which was sponsored by Access Bank’s Access Women initiative in partnership with the Access Women Network, is meant to ensure the inmates are free from the dreadful disease which has killed several women world wide.
Prior to the health screening exercise, the team from Access Women Network led by the President Mary-Ann presented assorted medical supplies to the prisons to support the healthcare needs of both the inmates and officials working there.
Explaining the rationale behind the donation and screening exercise, the Zonal Head for Retail Banking Josephine Eva Arthur said, “as a gender sensitive organization, we cannot just be passive observers of the Breast cancer awareness month. We are therefore here to support our fellow women who have found themselves here through this donation of drugs and the breast screening exercise.
“We will not just screen them, we will be on hand as a bank to support those who may have signs of the disease go through the treatment procedure”.
Receiving the donation from the Access Women Network, the office in charge ADP Victoria Adzewogah expressed gratitude for the gesture.
According to her, “this donation will go a long way to help not just the inmates but the officers working here. The screening will also be helpful for the inmates since they may not get the chance to go for the screening outside”.
President of the Access Women Network Mary-Ann who spoke to Starrfm.com.gh on the sidelines urged young women to be patient in their quest to be successful in life.
She said, “to young girls out there, you must be patient in your attempts to be rich or successful. Pass through the right channels to achieve what you want so that you don’t find yourself in conflict with the law”.
The breast cancer screening exercise was carried out by medical officials from the Trust Hospital and sponsored through the Access W initiative by the Access Women Network.
