Burkina Faso became the first team to book their ticket to the semifinals of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations after securing a 2-0 victory over Tunisia Saturday afternoon.
The Stallions had tight control throughout the game and their attacking dominance laid bare late on, scoring twice in a space of four minutes.
Experienced striker Aristide Bance proved a super sub for coach Paulo Duarte’s side after coming on in the 76th minute. Four minutes later, he scored from a free-kick routine with a well struck free-kick into the bottom right-hand corner.
Prejuce Nakoulma who later won the man-of-the-match award added the second from a break. The ball was cleared to Nakoulma on the channel and the forward showed a fantastic turn of pace to get forward, drawing Tunisia’s goalkeeper Mathlouthi off his line, kept his cool and rounded him before putting the ball into an empty net with six minutes from full time.
Burkina Faso have now been to three quarterfinals at the Afcon – in 1998, 2013 and this campaign and have gone on to advance to the last four.
