Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has visited former Bank of Ghana (BoG) Governor Dr. Ernest Addison after National Security operatives allegedly raided his residence, an incident that has sparked public outcry and political debate.
The operation, reportedly led by Richard Jakpa, Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat, has drawn widespread condemnation.
According to reports from Joy News, the raid took place at dawn on Wednesday, March 19, at Dr. Addison’s private residence in Roman Ridge. Around 5 a.m., approximately 15 heavily armed men, suspected to be National Security operatives, arrived in three vehicles and forced their way into the house while the former Governor was home.
The operatives swiftly disabled the property’s CCTV system before demanding that Dr. Addison lead them to alleged “vaults” hidden within the house. However, he firmly denied the existence of any such vaults or stashed cash.
Despite his denial, the operatives ransacked the residence, leaving it in disarray. Finding nothing, they then called in National Security drivers to remove four of Dr. Addison’s vehicles, leaving only two behind.
Before departing, they also seized the CCTV monitor and control unit. Later that evening, sources revealed that the family was contacted and instructed to retrieve the vehicles, which had been parked opposite Jokers Club in Labadi.
The incident has left Dr. Addison and his family deeply shaken. It also follows a similar raid on the home of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta on February 11, 2025. In that case, a group of 12 men, including military personnel and plainclothes officers, allegedly stormed Mr. Ofori-Atta’s residence without a warrant while he was away receiving medical treatment.
Afenyo-Markin’s visit to Dr. Addison signals rising political concern over the actions of National Security operatives. His visit is widely seen as a gesture of solidarity amid growing calls for transparency and accountability regarding such operations.
