Some 13 persons have been rounded up in a dawn swoop carried out around the border enclave of Aflao in the Ketu South municipality by a team of personnel from the Volta Regional Police command.
The suspects, including two women, age between 19 and 50 years, are said to be terrorizing traders along the border and robbing them of their valuables.
The Regional Police commander, ACP Nana Asomah Hinneh briefing the journalists in Ho Tuesday said some of the suspects also pose as state security officials to carry out their nefarious acts against the unsuspecting public, especially when the border is closed.
“We’ve picked up intelligence that, some suspected criminals have invaded the area, so we send a team led by my deputy and supported by the crime officer to swoop the place, where we arrested 13 people including two women, 11 men, age ranging from about 19 to 50.”
“Most of them were found in the ghettos with some exhibits. Others were picked up at the Low Cost area, they pose as immigration, BNI, police CID to just harass unsuspecting travelers, especially those from Kumasi who are going to Togo,” he stated and indicated that, the suspects will be screened and those found culpable will be prosecuted.
The Tuesday dawn raid led by the Deputy Regional Commander ACP Doku also saw the retrieval of some dried substances believed to be India hemp and sharp objects such as knives and scissors from the hideouts of the suspects.
ACP Nana Asomah Hinneh further noted the swoop will continue in other parts of the region to ensure safety.
