Preparations are underway for the 5th edition of the African Elders and Women Intercultural Dialogue, which will be held at the British Council Auditorium and Africa Trade House in Accra, from July 29 to August 2, 2025.
The event returns to Ghana eight years after its inaugural edition in 2017 and will focus on the complex dynamics of human trafficking and migration on the continent.
Themed, “Born Free – Exploring the Economic, Political, Social, and Cultural Intricacies Sponsoring Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling in Today’s Africa,” the dialogue will bring together elders, women leaders, development experts, lawmakers, and youth from across Africa to explore ways of inspiring both cultural and legislative reforms.
Key highlights of the 2025 edition include an Anti-Trafficking Workshop targeting key players in the transport and hospitality sectors such as airlines, maritime agencies, travel operators, and hotel managers; recognising their critical role in tackling trafficking and smuggling.
The programme also features the premiere of “No U Turn,” an award-winning documentary by Ike Nnaebue that traces the stories of irregular migration across nine African countries.
In a notable development, organisers have partnered with Placements Ghana to host a three-day Resource Mobilisation Masterclass alongside the main event. Tailored for NGO directors, government agency staff, and civil society leaders, the Masterclass will be led by renowned development consultant Kofi Awity, and will cover institutional fundraising, crowdfunding, corporate partnerships, and financial sustainability.

The African Elders and Women Dialogue aims to challenge entrenched post-colonial narratives that continue to hinder the progress of African youth and women, while promoting homegrown solutions through cultural revival and policy advocacy.
