Airtel Ghana has enrolled 20 graduates from tertiary institutions as interns in the company’s Annual Internship Programme.

The annual programme offers participants a unique and practical working experience in an environment that encourages collaboration and excellence. The programme equips young graduates with practical skills and on the job training.

Participants are also exposed to various aspects of the business – from strategy development through to execution. They participate in cross-functional and personal projects that grooms and empowers them to make a smooth transition from the classroom to the world of work.

Welcoming the 2017 batch of interns at the company’s head office, Airtel Ghana’s CEO, Lucy Quist challenged them to adopt an entrepreneurial mindset and to be change agents in the business and society at large. She encouraged them to make the best use of the opportunity to learn from the seasoned professionals at Airtel.

Commenting on the initiative, Kwame Annor, Airtel’s Human Resource Director said “The annual internship programme is a highly competitive and well-sought after platform reputed for shaping young graduates and giving them a sound footing in the corporate world. This programme speaks to our commitment as a business to empowering young people to fully realise their potential and forms part of a wider initiative to expose tertiary students to the world of work”.

He continued “every year we select some of the best graduating students from tertiary institutions in the country and match them, through this programme, with experienced professionals in our business for a stipulated period of time – the results have been amazing. We have seen many of the interns grow and develop over the period and making a contribution to the business. Those who perform creditably are given the opportunity to stay on for their mandatory National Service to crystallise their growth.

“We are happy to contribute to shaping these young graduates into world class talents through this programme.”

Airtel Ghana continues to demonstrate commitment towards empowering the young people. Recently, the Smartphone Network launched its pioneering Hello World Series to prepare final year tertiary students for the world of work.
