Former President Akufo-Addo has bemaoaned that J.B Danquah’s name continues to elicit needless controversies in death as in life, with vicious name-calling by would-be responsible members of society urging believers of his philosophy and achievements to defend his legacy.
“In spite of the breath and death of Danquah’s contribution to the development of Ghana, his name continue to elicit needless controversies in death as in life. We recalled vividly the inhumane conditions Kwame Nkrumah’s CPP government attached to the conduct of his burial in 1965 after his cruel consolatory confinement in the dungeons of Nsawam Prisons.
“We are current witnesses 60 years after his death, the vicious name calling by would be responsible members of society those of us who love the works of this great champion of Ghanaian freedom and progress must take solace in this matter not just from benevolence of our God in heaven but also from philosophical Mr. Danquah claimed for himself in the cell of Sekondi Prison”, President Akufo Addo bemoaned.

The former President eulogized the late Dr. JB Danquah for his immense contribution to the development of Ghana.
According to the former President, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, the late JB Danquah was the epitome of the rule of law and a champion of democratic governance on which Ghana’s democracy was founded.
“JB Danquah’s persistent call for the rule of law to be entrenched in body politics is the utmost guarantee of liberty and individual freedom in this day are finally the central features of the Ghanaian politics”. Said former President Akufo-Addo.
Nana Akufo-Addo further noted that the late JB Danquah’s hope and dream for rule of law and democratic governance have been achieved adding that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) continue to operate in his principle that suggests “development in freedom” which is the mantra of the party.
Additionally, the former President indicated that even though the late Dr. JB Danquah never held executive office , his influence and impact has been truly exceptional which impacted all aspects of the Ghanaian life such as constitutional , legal , philosophical , theological, economic, cultural, education, legislative etc.
He said this Sunday at Kyebi when launching the Compendium of statements honouring the Legacy of Dr. J. B. Danquah on his 60th anniversary.
Addressing the congregants , the Okyenhene Osafogyefou Amoatia Ofori Panin also recounted the significance of Dr. JB Danquah’s 60th anniversary and condemned what he called malice, mischief and wilful ignorance against late JB Danquah.
He called on the NPP to consider making Saltpon a relevant part of torusim and history as it is the birthplace Ghana’s freedom and democracy with JB Danquah as convener.
Finally, the Minority Leader of Parliament Alexander Afenyo Markin decried that since the 1940’s no group of people have suffered hate campaign as a group than JB Danquah and his descendants had to go through.
He ondemned the recent commentary made by a member of parliament against JB Danquah describing it as bold and naked lies saying it is a mark of undeserving indignity and evil that JB Danquah still endures.
