The National Youth Organizer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, has reiterated that the people of Akwatia are entitled to development projects and opportunities regardless of which political party they vote for.
Addressing the media during the ongoing Akwatia by-election, Mr. Mustapha passionately argued that development is a constitutional right of all citizens and not a privilege tied to partisan loyalty. He said the NPP believes in inclusive governance and has demonstrated this through its policies and investments, and no Ghanaian should be denied their fair share because of politics.
Mr. Mustapha also recounted the difficult experiences of the late Ernest Kumi, a former NPP parliamentary candidate, who, according to him, was once forced to be smuggled out of parliament and his own constituency under pressure from state agencies. He said the young politician was treated unfairly and inhumanely, which took a heavy emotional toll on him.
“At a point, Ernest Kumi had to be put at the back of a car and smuggled out of parliament, smuggled out of his own constituency like a criminal, because he was being chased by BNI and National Security. That is how they treated the young man. And today, he has lost his life. You cannot tell me this is not an emotional matter,” Mr. Mustapha lamented.
He added that if members of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) had been subjected to similar treatment, they would not have accepted it in silence. He therefore urged political actors to treat their opponents with dignity and fairness, emphasizing that political competition should not be a matter of intimidation or abuse.
Mr. Mustapha further assured the people of Akwatia that the NPP’s candidate, Solomon Kwame Asumadu, would bring meaningful development to the constituency if elected. He said the party has a proven track record of delivering on its promises and will not neglect Akwatia regardless of its voting history.
“The people of Akwatia deserve their share, and by the grace of God, they will vote hi for Kwame Isumidu. He will represent them in parliament as NPP, and development will surely come to Akwatia,” he added.
The Akwatia by-election, triggered by the unfortunate passing of Ernest Kumi, has attracted keen attention from both the NPP and the NDC, with both parties intensifying their campaigns as residents prepare to cast their votes.
