The Minority in Parliament has accused the presiding judge for the Koforidua High Court 3, Justice Senyo Amedehe, of bias in the case involving MP for Akwatia Ernest Yaw Kumi.
The court on Wednesday issued a bench warrant for the arrest of the MP after convicting him of contempt.
Addressing the media in parliament, deputy minority Chief Whip Jerry Ahmed Shaib recounted instances of bias against the MP since the case was filed by the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for Akwatia.
The Weija-Gbawe MP disclosed a notice of appeal and stay of execution have already been filed over the contempt ruling and the bench warrant.
According to Mr. Shaib, in the meantime, the embattled MP will continue to turn up for work in parliament, daring the police to come to the chamber to effect his arrest if they may.
He revealed Ernest Kumi, who was already in the chamber in sharp contrast to what happened on Wednesday when he dashed out of the chamber after the news of the arrest warrant broke and was even going to make a statement.
True to the revelation of the deputy whip, Ernest Yaw Kumi took his turn to contribute to a statement on Social Justice Day on the floor for the first time in his short stay in Parliament.
