A group calling itself, the Network for Peace in Northen Ghana (NETPING) has dismissed as false media reportage linking the mayhem witnessed at Alabar, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti region to the Abudu/Andani royal gates.
“Our checks at the Ghana Station in Kumasi, Alabar revealed that, the said clash was between NPP and NDC sympathizers and had absolutely nothing to do with the two prominent Dagbon gates,” the group stated in a press Statement Friday August 18, 2017.
It therefore argued that the story is “misleading and injurious to Dagbon Kingdom” hence the need to retract the publication and an unqualified apology to be rendered to the two gates.
It was recalled that members of the Abudu and Andani Royal gates have clashed at Alabar, Thursday over management of a lorry station.
Ultimate FM’s Isaac Bediako Justice reported that but for the swift intervention of the Police, the clashes would have turned bloody.
According to him, the tension between the two groups had been brewing for the last five months, immediately the New Patriotic Party (NPP) won the 2016 elections.
Reports indicate that the Abudus, who belong to the NPP party are seeking total control of the station because their party is in power but the Andanis who belong to the opposition National Democratic Congress are resisting the takeover, claiming they have the right to run the station.
But in its reply, the group argued that it was no news that since governance of the country changed hands early this year, there had been several attempted takeovers of public institutions – Lorry Parks, Toll booths among others by NPP sympathizers.
“The reportage on these issues have been consistent on pointing to the real situation on the happenings and has never been linked to any ethnic group. Why meddle political misunderstandings with Abudu and Andani Issues?” it quizzed.
