Some supporters of Alan Kyerematen ready to return to NPP – Ayeh Paye

Former Eastern Regional Coordinator for Alan Kyerematen’s campaign, Samuel Ayeh Paye, has disclosed that some members who left the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to join Alan Kyerematen’s movement for change, which has metamorphosed
into a newly formed United Party (UP), are ready to return to the NPP.

According to Ayeh Paye, the decision by Mr. Kyerematen to leave the NPP was unfortunate and affected the party’s electoral fortunes in the 2024 elections, but some of his loyal supporters are now reconsidering their stance.

Speaking to Starr FM in Okere constituency  during Dr. Bryan Acheampong’s meeting with delegates,  Ayeh Paye expressed disappointment that Mr. Kyerematen eventually transformed his movement into a political party, describing the move as regrettable and one that had some negative impact on the NPP.

“Alan’s exit affected us in the 2024 elections. If anybody tells you it didn’t, the person may not be truthful. I personally went to him and spoke to him to return, but he had already made up his mind,” he said.

He, however, maintained optimism that with the right leadership, some of the defected members could be won back.

“Those who followed Alan to the United Party, some are prepared to come back. I’ve worked with many of them and still have a good relationship with them. With a good candidate, I’m sure they’ll return,” he said.

Ayeh Paye noted that the NPP’s acting national chairman has already opened the door for all former members to return, emphasizing that a strong and attractive flagbearer would be key to reuniting the party’s base.

“They will come back when something attracts them. I believe a candidate like Dr. Bryan Acheampong will attract them back to the NPP,” he concluded.

Ayeh Paye revealed that after Mr. Kyerematen’s left the NPP, he shifted his support to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, but stressed however he has now joined Dr. Bryan Acheampong’s flag bearership campaign, stating that loyalty in politics must be tied to the pursuit of political power.

“It’s not just about loyalty; it’s about power. Political parties are formed to win power. If I follow you and I know very well that you cannot give me power, should I continue to be loyal?” Ayeh Paye questioned.

“I like Dr. Bawumia  no doubt, but we want power. If I have to move to another camp to get power, I’m ready to do that,” he added.
