Ayeh Paye: NPP must choose a Flagbearer with economic strength, tribal and religious appeal

Former Ayensuano MP says Dr. Bryan Acheampong is best positioned to unite and reposition the NPP for victory in 2028.

Eastern Regional Campaign Coordinator for Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Ayeh Paye, has said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) must select a flagbearer for the 2028 elections who can be defended on the economy and whose tribe and religion can strategically boost the party’s electoral fortunes.

Speaking to GHOne TV and Starr FM at the sidelines of Dr. Bryan Acheampong’s meeting with delegates in Okere constituency, the former Member of Parliament for Ayensuano explained that the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 elections was largely due to the choice of candidate and the country’s harsh economic conditions at the time.

“The election result that came out in 2024, I wasn’t happy with it. The defeat was so heavy. Looking at it, I think we didn’t bring a good candidate,” he said.

According to Ayeh Paye, there are three key factors that influence voting behavior globally – the state of the economy, the tribe, and the religion of the candidate.

“Everywhere in the world, people look at three things before voting. Number one is the economy. Even in America, they look at the economic condition of the country. Number two is the tribe or race of the person. Number three is the religious background,” he explained.

He said the 2024 campaign was challenged by an economic crisis that made it difficult for the NPP to campaign on economic achievements, adding that the candidate’s background also worked against the party.

“Our 2024 candidate[Dr.Mahamadu Bawumia ] was from one of the smallest tribes and the smallest religion, which makes up about 17% of the religious body in Ghana. That didn’t help us,” Ayeh Paye said.

“People may not like to say it, but these are facts. Until we consider these factors, we are not going to win,” he stressed.

Ayeh Paye emphasized that ahead of 2028, the NPP must choose a candidate who can be defended in terms of the economy and has the social appeal to attract broad national support.

“We must get somebody we can defend in terms of the economy, whose tribe will give us a push, and whose religion will give us a push. Among the five potential aspirants, Dr. Bryan Acheampong stands out,” he said.

He praised Dr. Acheampong’s youthfulness, business background, and contribution to job creation in Ghana, describing him as the future of the NPP and the nation.

“He is an investor who has created jobs for many people. If he says vote for me and I’ll attract investors, we can believe him. Ghana needs someone who will bring investors to manufacture here and create jobs for the youth,” he noted.

Ayeh Paye stated that Dr. Bryan Acheampong’s campaign has so far received massive support from delegates in all regions visited so far.

“The response has been superb. I can confidently say Bryan Acheampong will win the flagbearership election on January 31, 2026,” he declared.

The January 31, 2026 Presidential Primary of the NPP is keenly being contested by Ken Ohene Agyapong, Dr Bryan Acheampong, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.
