All Nations University (A.N.U) in the Eastern Region of Ghana is poised to establish laboratories to implement local STEM innovations.

As the university gears up to host the ‘Develop and Elevate STEM Ghana Conference 2023’ today, December 13,the focus is on inspiring collaborative innovation for transformational growth and addressing critical needs in the country.

Mr. Ernest Teye Martey, Chairperson of the Local Organizing Committee and Developer of Ghana’s first space satellite, stressed the crucial role of industrial participation in bridging the gap between academia and industry.

He highlighted the university’s proactive steps to create laboratories dedicated to implementing students’ projects, addressing the challenge of innovative projects being underutilized after completion.

Martey expressed, “All Nations University is establishing facilities where students’ projects can seamlessly integrate into society, ensuring a smooth transition from academia to the broader community. Through investments in STEM and the establishment of these laboratories, the university aims to position Ghana as a hub for the STEM revolution in Africa.”

Emphasizing the ongoing projects with significant societal impacts in agriculture, medicine, mining, and academia, Martey showcased the university’s commitment to deploying these solutions for the betterment of Ghana’s development.

Leslie-Ann George, Co-Founder of Develop and Elevate STEM Ghana 2023, highlighted the growing importance of STEM in Ghana’s job market, projecting that 80% of the country’s job opportunities will soon be STEM-related.

She said this underscores the pressing need to prioritize STEM education to foster collaborative innovation and drive transformative growth.

The ‘Develop and Elevate STEM Ghana Conference 2023’ being organized in partnership with UK based EL Empire Professional Services serves as a pivotal platform to accelerate these initiatives, inspiring and guiding the next generation of STEM leaders in Ghana.

In 2021, the impactful conference was held in Accra with over 700 attendees.

Over a thousand students and sixty teachers are expected to take part in this year’s conference today at the University’s main campus.
