Ama Dokua soars in Akropong despite plot to malign her

The Member of Parliament for Akuapem North Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei has said she can account for every penny spent from her share of the District Assembly Common Fund after two persons petitioned the assembly for accountability.

The two – Ahwireng-Danquah and Patrick Boi Akufo Kumih – are seeking comprehensive insights, including:

  1. Detailed breakdowns of funds received in 2021, 2022, and 2023, categorised by quarterly allotments.
  2. Explicit accounts of the initiatives funded by these allocations, encompassing specific programs, projects, or activities, alongside beneficiaries and allocated amounts for each endeavor.
  3. An accurate depiction of the current balance in the MP’s Common Fund account.

Reacting to a newspaper publication on the petition, Asiamah-Adjei said every disbursement was done through the assembly and the records are there to show, adding that the petition is part of a grand scheme to thwart her parliamentary ambition.

“I am not running away from accountability,” Asiamah-Adjei, who doubles as the deputy Minister of Trade and Industry told Accra-based Okay FM on Wednesday. “The assembly does the disbursement so everything is there for everyone to check.”

“The projects I have done in the constituency are there for everyone to see. I know all these are part of a grand machination with the parliamentary primaries coming up this Saturday but it won’t wash. We cannot break the eight with this dirty politics,” she added.

Since 2017, Akuapem North has seen unprecedented infrastructural development under Ama Dokua, according to a constituent who identified himself as “Degree Taxi Driver” in a viral video. “She’s been one of the best, if not the best MP we have ever had.”

“Dokua has done a lot in the health and education sectors in particular. The work of the detractors won’t work. Those who are in doubt should come to the constituency and see for themselves. How much is the MP’s common fund that people are making it seem as if she’s gone into hiding over that?

“Dokua used her private funds to renovate the Orange Clinic to boost healthcare delivery in her constituency to mark her 41st birthday. So, what are they talking about,” the driver said, adding that the MP has helped a lot of the youth to gain jobs.

Another constituent in a viral audio on social media said under Dokua’s watch, the Tetteh Quarshie Hospital has undergone major transformation. “She’s the people’s mother and has done a lot for the women in Akropong,” the unidentified woman said in the viral tape.

The Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital has now been elevated into a tertiary hospital and will be commissioned on Thursday 30 November 2023.
