Member of Parliament for Upper Denkyira West, Hon. Rudolf Amoako-Gyampah, says political opponents should not be treated as enemies, calling for greater tolerance and collaboration across party lines.
Speaking on The Verdict with Isaac Addae on Starr 103.5 FM on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, the MP shared a personal example of cooperation with his district’s Chief Executive, who belongs to an opposing party.
“I don’t see my opponents as my enemies,” he said. “I’m free with the DCE in my district. When they nominated him, I had to step in, talk to some of the Assembly Members to approve him. Even his thanksgiving; I had to go with him. We’ve had that kind of relationship.”
Amoako-Gyampah condemned political bias in development and governance, stressing that such attitudes harm constituents more than political actors.
“I don’t see a reason why you’d have the mindset that because you’re not in my party, I have to delay you or I’m not going to approve certain things for you. If you do that, then we are doing a disservice to the people of the constituency, not me as a person,” he explained.
He concluded by urging all politicians to embrace unity and remain focused on serving the people, not their personal or party agendas.
“I don’t think he is going to do that, so I don’t think most people have to learn that it is the people we’re serving.”
