Antonio Edem Asinyo has announced his intention to contest for the position of Deputy National Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a statement issued in Accra on October 1, 2026, Mr Asinyo said his decision was driven by his commitment to the party’s founding values and a youth-centred vision for Ghana.
He said the NDC’s history was built on the sacrifices of young people who committed themselves to the ideals of social solidarity, probity and accountability.
Mr Asinyo traced his involvement in the party to his secondary school days, when he joined the NDC Youth Forum and participated in weekly meetings at Kuku Hill.
He also said he was part of the youth campaign team that worked towards the election of former President John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills.
His political activism continued through the Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN), where he said he organised students across institutions including the University of Ghana, UPSA and Accra Polytechnic.
Beyond party politics, Mr Asinyo highlighted his experience in public service, having worked at the Ministry of Information and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He also served as spokesperson to former Finance Minister and Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr Kwabena Duffuor.
Mr Asinyo said his professional experience also included leadership in an agribusiness venture and his current role coordinating external communications and media relations in the mining sector.
On the international front, he said he had contributed to debate and youth leadership programmes across Ghanaian universities before becoming the first African elected President of the World Universities Debating Council in Cape Town.
He further cited his experience as a Chevening Scholar at the University of Reading, where he studied Communication for Development, as part of the experiences that have shaped his leadership outlook.
“Before trusting a leader’s word, look at what they have done,” Mr Asinyo said, arguing that his record demonstrated his commitment to youth development and public service.
He said his decision to contest the position was informed by a desire to advance a youth-centred agenda that places people before politics and remains faithful to the NDC’s founding values.
“I seek your support for a greater call, as I throw my hat in the ring to contest for Deputy National Youth Organiser of the NDC,” he said.
Mr Asinyo said he looked forward to engaging party members and young people throughout the process as he sought to contribute to the development of the NDC and Ghana.
