The Member of Parliament for Builsa South, Dr. Clement Apaak has educated the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Builsa South District – Fumbisi on the utilization of District Assemblies Common Fund on education support for students.
This comes on the back of the DCE writing to the Builsa South MP that at its General Assembly Meeting held on the 1st December it was decided that a Committee of the Assembly will vet applications for students’ support.
But, the MP disagrees.
In a letter dated March 3, 2033 the lawmaker questioned the bases for the decision by the General Assembly.
According to him, there are no laws backing the move by the General Assembly of the District to vet application for students support.
“I wish to inform you that there is no such criteria stated in the Guidelines for the utilization of the District Assemblies Common Fund. The role of the Member of Parliament and the District Assembly are clearly stated with regards to the management of their respective components of the District Assemblies Common Fund.
“What law or act gives the General Assembly the authority to decide the criteria by which students to benefit from my education support are selected? My research and checks, including discussions with colleague Members of Parliament, the Minister for Local Government (Hon Daniel Botwe) as well as other experts with in depth knowledge of our local government system and the guidelines governing the utilization of the District Assemblies Common Fund, confirms that the General Assembly has no powers,” Mr. Apaak stated.
