The Women’s Premier League opened in style at the Madina Astroturf, where Epiphany Warriors locked horns with Army Ladies in the Southern Zone clash.
The event began with a ceremonial kickoff performed by the President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku, signaling the official start of the new season.
Epiphany Warriors started strongly, dominating possession and pressing high in the opening minutes as they pushed for an early breakthrough. However, their momentum was halted when Army Ladies caught them on a swift counterattack to grab the first goal of the match in the fourteenth minute. The Warriors kept their intensity with a high line, earning a free kick in added time before halftime, but couldn’t convert their chance.
The second half saw Army Ladies restart the game from the back, but Epiphany Warriors quickly took control again, creating several dangerous chances in search of an equalizer but struggled to convert them in the final third. Army Ladies made a triple substitution to regain stability yet Epiphany’s persistence paid off when Faustina Tiwaa slotted home the equalizer in the 70th minute.
Unfortunately for them, their celebrations ceased as Linda Achiaa restored the lead for the service side just 13 minutes later sealing a 2-1 win for Army Ladies.
Coach Owusu of Army Ladies later highlighted his team’s effort, emphasizing that experience and maturity were key to securing the win despite their slow start and limited possession.
