The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr John Kudalor, has ordered his men to arrest hoodlums fueling trouble in the country.
Pockets of violence have been recorded in some parts of Ghana as some New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters allegedly force perceived members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from manning State outfits.
The political thugs are seizing public facilities or setting them ablaze.
The Police have served notice all troublemakers will be dealt with ruthlessly.
“The Police Administration wishes to assure the general public that the police is making every effort to maintain law and order in the wake of the attacks by the youth of some political parties on their opponents and on some public facilities,” a statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs Supt. Cephas Arthur said.
“The police have put various operational measures in place to prevent these disturbances and also arrest those who perpetrate them. These operational strategies include police deployment to these public facilities to protect them, intelligence gathering and prompt police responses to acts of vandalism. Being perpetrated by some alleged party supporters.
“Once again, we wish to assure the public that every effort is being made to bring perpetrators of these attacks and seizures to book,” the statement added.
It continued: “The police wishes to put on record that, a number of persons are facing court action for their involvement in acts of vandalism or attacks, including, causing harm to political opponents, murder and setting state properties ablaze, which breaches occurred in the aftermath of the declaration of the 2016 general election results.”
The opposition NDC at a press conference Thursday asked President Akufo-Addo to call his supporters to order because they cannot be blamed for “any reprisal attacks.”
