Asuogyaman MP cuts sod for new KG block in Sokpokofe

Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman, Hon. Thomas Ampem Nyarko has cut the sod for the construction of a new kindergarten block in the Asikuma-Sokpokofe community to provide access to early childhood education.

This marks the beginning of the establishment of a new public school in the area.

Currently, children from Asikuma-Sokpokofe and nearby villages have to perilously walk 3-4 kilometers along the Kpong-Asikuma-Ho highway to access basic education at the only basic school located in the main Asikuma township.

The new school aims to eliminate the risks associated with this commute and provide a safer, more accessible, and more convenient option for school-going-age children in the community.

Thomas Ampem Nyarko expressed gratitude to the Omanhene of the Anum traditional area and the Odikro of Anum-Asikuma for assisting in acquiring the site for the new school.

The MP also acknowledged the support of the Church of Pentecost’s Sokpokofe Assembly in the school’s establishment and expressed confidence that the Church may adopt the school in the future.

Additionally, the MP presented 20 sets of street lights to the community and committed to supporting the payment of fees for 10 tertiary students from the electoral area.

This school initiative is part of efforts by the MP to provide access to basic education in communities without schools.

The District Director of Education was represented by Madam Janet Dzorkpe, who reported high enrollment levels at Asikuma Presbyterian Basic School, the only public school in the Asikuma electoral area with over 1,500 pupils.

This, she says has led to congestion in classrooms affecting supervision and quality of teaching and learning.

Globally, the Education 2030 agenda and Ghana’s National Education Strategic Plan strive for inclusive early childhood education.

Aligned with SDG target 4.2.4, the goal is clear: by 2030, every child should have access to quality early childhood development and pre-primary education.

As Ghana progresses with initiatives like the Free and Compulsory Universal Basic Education (fCUBE), the challenges faced by communities like Asikuma-Sokpokofe underscore the importance of targeted investments in education infrastructure to realize the vision of inclusive and quality early childhood education.

Parents elated by the intervention commended Hon. Thomas Ampem Nyarko for his commitment to the development of the constituency.
