Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, the NDC parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso East, has appeared before the party’s investigative committee and denied allegations of vote buying during the February 7 primaries.
In a statement dated Monday, February 9, 2026, Baba Jamal said he appeared before the committee chaired by Kofi Totobi Quakyi, where he “reiterate[d] my innocence and firmly deny any attempt on my part to induce voters.”
He reflected on his past attempts to win the seat, noting that he had contested two previous primaries but lost to the late MP, and emphasized that he accepted those outcomes “in the spirit of party unity and cohesion.”
Baba Jamal said, “I secured 309 votes against the winner’s 452 votes,” attributing his popularity to “the initiatives I have undertaken, my integrity, and our shared commitment to securing better representation for Ayawaso East in Parliament.”
Baba Jamal thanked the delegates for their confidence in him to lead the party into the upcoming by-election and reaffirmed his commitment to delivering development in the constituency.
Meanwhile, the NDC’s three-member committee investigating the alleged inducement and vote buying during the primaries is expected to submit its report today, Tuesday, February 10, 2026.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor is also investigating the matter and an alleged attack on Officer by Baba Jamal camp.
