A military-led operation in Bawku has resulted in the arrest of four individuals, including two minors aged 15, following violent clashes that claimed two lives and injured several others.
The Ghana Police Service confirmed the arrests, which were made in response to renewed hostilities that erupted in October 2024, resulting in a death toll of 41.
The security forces also recovered eight assault rifles and a substantial cache of ammunition, highlighting the intensity of the violence.
The latest clashes are linked to a deadly ambush on a passenger bus earlier in the week, which heightened tensions between rival factions.
The involvement of youth in the protracted conflict is a troubling development, with the oldest suspect being just 25 years old.
Security officials have expressed concern over the presence of military-grade weapons in the area, which further complicates peace efforts.
The long-standing ethnic conflict between the Kusasi and Mamprusi groups, primarily rooted in chieftaincy disputes, has resisted multiple peace initiatives by successive governments.
The unrest continues to disrupt livelihoods and socio-economic activities in Bawku and its surrounding communities, with calls for more decisive and sustainable interventions growing louder.
