Camp of the Vice President and flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party(NPP), Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia has turned down an invite from the Minority in Parliament for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to participate in debates on the mid-year Fiscal Policy Review of the 2024 Budget Statement and Economic Policy of the government.
According to the Minority, this is an excellent opportunity for the Vice President to debate on the economy, despite his calls to Mr. John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress to a debate.
“Pursuant to the Vice President’s recent call for a debate on the economy, this invitation presents Alhaji Bawumia an excellent opportunity and forum to debate and account for his stewardship over the last seven and a half years (7.5 years) as Chairman of the Economic Management Team.
“The NDC Minority has lined up a crack team of highly knowledgeable and competent members on its side to debate Vice President Bawumia and further expose the abysmal economic performance of his government,” the Minority leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson stated.
Reacting to the invitation on Starr Today with Joshua Kodjo Mensah, Aide to Dr.Mahamadu Bawumia, Kofi Tonto explained that Dr. Bawumia will debate his fellow Presidential aspirants and not Members of Parliament.
“We have equally competent people in parliament who can debate them. The Vice President will debate His Excellency John Dramani Mahama because they are the two leaders vying to lead this country and any other person who is vying to lead this country can participate in that debate. There is no issue.
“The people will debate those they have to debate. Parliamentarians will represent the people and then debate on behalf of the people. His Excellency will also debate His Excellency or any other leader who wants to lead this country.”
