Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has been officially elected as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer for the 2028 general elections, securing 56.48 percent of the total valid votes cast nationwide.
According to the final results, Dr. Bawumia received 110,643 votes out of 195,901 valid ballots.
His closest rival, Ken Ohene Agyapong, garnered 46,554 votes, representing 23.76 percent, while Dr. Bryan Acheampong secured 36,303 votes, or 18.53 percent.
Former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum and former General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong received 1,999 votes (1.02 percent) and 402 votes (0.21 percent), respectively.
There were 561 rejected ballots, bringing the total votes cast to 196,462.
The primaries witnessed massive participation, with over 211,000 delegates across more than 300 polling centres casting their ballots in a peaceful exercise.
The Ghana Police Service, designated as the sole security agency for the election, maintained law and order throughout the voting and counting process.
Bawumia thanked his campaign team, Members of Parliament, party executives, and supporters for their dedication and efforts.
“Everybody has contributed so much. The MPs, in particular, have stood by my side and delivered what they promised,” he said.
He also paid tribute to previous NPP flagbearers for laying the foundation that enabled him to secure the victory.
With this decisive win, Bawumia now leads the party into the 2028 general elections, having secured widespread support across the country.
