The Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Asiama, on Wednesday led a symbolic tree-planting exercise at the Bank’s Headquarters as part of activities marking the 60th anniversary of the Ghana Cedi.
The event forms part of the Bank’s environmental commitment to plant 60 trees in honour of Cedi@60 and to promote sustainability within its operational environment.
Dr. Asiama was joined by the First Deputy Governor, Dr. Zakari Mumuni, senior officials, and staff of the central bank during the ceremony at the Bank Square. The initiative, the Bank said, underscores efforts to build a greener and more resilient ecosystem while supporting national environmental conservation goals.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Asiama explained that the Cedi@60 milestone goes beyond reflecting on the evolution of Ghana’s currency.
“Planting these trees symbolises growth, and our commitment to safeguarding the environment for generations to come,” he stated.
The tree-planting exercise, which saw the First Deputy Governor and Second Deputy Governor, Mrs. Matilda Asante-Asiedu, also plant trees at various Bank of Ghana office locations, reaffirms the institution’s dedication to sustainability, responsible stewardship, and national development as it commemorates six decades of the Ghana Cedi.
