The British High Commission has organised a Business Forum in Ghana to position local companies to tap into opportunities linked to the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
The forum brought together stakeholders across the sports and business landscape, including government officials, sports administrators, and representatives from the finance, tourism, marketing, and sports sectors.
Speaking during a panel session, John Apea urged businesses to move beyond traditional sponsorship models and focus on strategic partnerships that can deliver long-term value.
Director-General of the National Sports Authority, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, emphasised the importance of branding in elevating Ghana’s global profile, noting that a strong national image can attract investment and grow the sports economy.
President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, Richard Akpokavie, also revealed plans to establish a “Ghana Village” in Glasgow during the Games to showcase the country’s culture, tourism, and business potential to an international audience.
On the sidelines, Mark Smithson of the UK’s Department for Business and Trade encouraged Ghanaian businesses to actively explore the economic prospects associated with the global event.
The Games are scheduled to take place in Glasgow from July 23 to August 2, 2026, and are expected to attract participants and investors from across the Commonwealth.
