The General Manager of Citi FM Bernard Avle has described as an admission of wrongdoing by the National Security the withdrawal of four operatives following its probe on the alleged assault on journalist Kaleb Kudah.
According to him, the withdrawal of the secondment of Lieutenant Colonel Frank Agyeman, Director of Operations, and some police officers at the Ministry who were mentioned by the journalist as the main perpetrators of the act is an admission that the institution did not do things right.
A statement issued by the National Security described the action of the officers as inappropriate.
Speaking to Francis Abban on the Morning Starr, Mr Avle lauded the National Media Commission (NMC) for its follow-up on the issue.
“The National Media Commission (NMC) is doing its work. It’s early days but we’re happy with the preliminary admission that there was some wrongdoing on the path of the institution.”
He added “the statement suggests that there’s some wrongdoing on the path of the institution. It tells you that the institution has admitted they didn’t do the right thing”.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the NMC Yaw Boadu-Ayeboafoh said “the law requires that we get the response within seven days after we sent the petition.”
“I think that it’s something we have to be thankful for. Most times our concern is that when security personnel attack journalists, nothing happens,” he bemoaned.
Also, speaking to Francis Abban on the same issue, Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association President Andrew Danso-Aninkora said “I think it’s a good development and I hope we can carry out the recommendations attached to the letter.”
“I hope that this time when they say a removal, we don’t see those who are being removed still at post and operating in the name of national security.”
He added “it’s important for us to understand that he was assaulted and they know the people. Knowing the three officers by their names may not be necessarily important for now.”
