Cash for seat: We may go to  CHRAJ – Ablakwa

The Member of Parliament for North Tongu Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has revealed the minority in the chamber is considering petitioning the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice over the controversial cash for seat saga.

It comes after the report compiled by the majority members on the committee, tasked to probe the incident, cleared the trade minister and his ministry of any wrongdoing in the issue.

The report which was presented to the House Tuesday has been rejected by the minority, who have compiled their own account of events at the hearing.

Speaking to Francis Abban on the development Wednesday, Mr. Ablakwa said he and his colleagues are willing to go every extent to prove their charge against the Trade ministry.

“We will explore other options…we may consider CHRAJ to look into the matter as well. We’ll also like Ashim Morton to carry out his threat of taking us to court. The Millennium Excellence Foundation wants to take us to court. I will plead with them not to contemplate the decision….they should quickly take us to court,” he said.

He further stressed the report is farcical and a travesty of parliamentary proceedings.

“The report of the Majority did not contain the views of the minority. It was a whole cover up and we weren’t ready to be part of it…that was why we walked out. When these farcical theatrical things continue in Parliament…it is not the best. This outcome is cynical, travesty of Justice, narrow. This whole thing has been a cover up and a charade”.

Responding to the claims, spokesperson for committee Yaw Buabeng Asamoah said the Minority is trying to hold parliament to ransom with their disposition on the issue.

“If you are in a committee, it is your responsibility to participate in the committee activities to the end. As far as I am concerned, I have no duty to play in the games the Minority are playing”.
