Chief of Staff appeals to Asantehene for support in passing affirmative action bill

In a bid to expedite the passage of the Affirmative Action Bill, Akosuah Frema Osei Opare, Chief of Staff, has made a heartfelt appeal to Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II the revered traditional ruler of the Asante Kingdom.

The proposed legislation, which aims to promote gender equality and empower women, has garnered significant attention and support across the country.

Recognizing the influential role Asantehene plays in the region, Hon Fremah believes his support could be a game-changer.

As part of the activities marking Asantehene’s 25th anniversary, Hon Fremah Osei Opare attended a food fair at the Manhyia Palace, where she emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration in achieving progress for all.

During her speech, she highlighted how the bill would create a more inclusive society by providing equal opportunities for women across various sectors.

In appealing to Asantehene, Hon Fremah hopes to leverage his influence and rally support from all corners to expedite the passage of the bill through parliament. The Affirmative Action Bill, which has been in parliament for over a decade without receiving the necessary attention to become law, aims to provide gender parity in Ghanaian politics by reserving at least 40% of public offices for women.

Hon Fremah also commended Asantehene for his continuous support in empowering women in the Ashanti Region and beyond, which has significantly improved their societal standing.

She acknowledged the King’s contributions to healthcare delivery, education, and various socio-economic sectors, which have revitalized both the local and national economy.

Furthermore, the Chief of Staff highlighted the gradual disappearance of Ashanti traditional recipes from the system.

She proposed the publication of these recipes to ensure that future generations can learn from them. This initiative would not only preserve the rich culinary heritage but also promote local tourism as visitors would have the opportunity to try preparing these traditional recipes.

As the Affirmative Action Bill gains momentum, it is hoped that the support from influential figures such as Asantehene will help expedite its passage, leading to a more inclusive and equal society for all Ghanaians.
