The Children’s Support Fund, created to secure the education and welfare of the children of the eight victims of the August 6 helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region, has so far accrued GH₵2,315,000.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, by Dr. Valerie Sawyerr, Senior Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs and Coordinator of the Fund.
At the State Funeral on Friday, August 15, President John Dramani Mahama described the Fund as a lasting tribute to the sacrifice of the fallen, assuring that it would be sustained to provide long-term, comprehensive support.
The Fund will cover beneficiaries’ education from basic to tertiary level, as well as healthcare, clothing, shelter, insurance, and other essential needs.
President Mahama further revealed that Stanbic Bank Ghana has seeded the Fund with GH₵500,000 and opened dedicated accounts for donations.
Government will also make a direct contribution, while a detailed framework for the Fund’s management, including mechanisms for public accountability and annual reporting, will be published within 30 days.
So far, contributions have come from several corporate bodies, including:
- Procus GH Limited
- GB Foods Ghana
- Sunda FM Manufacturing Ltd
- Sage Distribution Ltd
- Quantum Oil Terminals
- Quantum LPG Logistics Ltd
- Newgas Cylinder Ltd
- Quantum Terminals PLC
Government has expressed gratitude to all donors and encouraged further contributions from individuals, companies, and professional associations.
According to the statement, weekly donor lists will be published to ensure transparency.
