Police in Bimbilla have arrested a so called Muslim cleric, Alfa Alhassan Ibrahim, for allegedly sodomising a 12-year-old male he teaches Arabic at his home.
The police is also investigating a child labor allegation against the cleric.
The victim, name withheld, is currently receiving treatment at Bimbila Government Hospital.
Sources at the hospital say the minor was brought to the facility Saturday afternoon and is in an unstable condition.
A medical report available to Starr News said the “anus of the victim appeared inflamed with reddening and swelling.”
This is the second time the suspect is being investigated. Previously he was held for using the learners to beg on the streets for him after an investigation by Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
Doctors also added the victim had a swollen stomach and may go through a complex surgery.
Nanumba North district Police commander DSP Benjamin Aniah confirming the incident said the suspect operates Arabic classes in his home with over 20 learners.
He said the suspect was picked up upon a complaint by a relative of the victim and declined further details after adding that the suspect pleaded guilty.
Starr News gathered police have also halted operation of the classes and all the students withdrawn and sent back their parents.
