The Coalition for Integrity in Governance-Ghana (COFIIG-Ghana) has commended the Ghana Police Service, the media, and other stakeholders for ensuring that the ongoing Akwatia by-election has remained peaceful, calm, and orderly.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, the coalition praised the Inspector General of Police and security agencies for their vigilance, professionalism, and dedication, which have so far prevented any incidents of violence or disturbances at polling stations.
“Our observers report that so far, so beautiful the atmosphere remains peaceful, calm, and orderly with no records of violence or disturbances at any of the polling stations visited,” the statement said.
COFIIG-Ghana also lauded the Electoral Commission for its logistical arrangements, citing the timely supply of election materials and smooth organization of the process, which have contributed to the credibility of the exercise.
The coalition further applauded the extensive media coverage of the polls by outlets such as TV3, Citi TV, GHOne TV, JoyNews, and the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, noting that it had brought the process closer to citizens nationwide.
“The real-time updates, transparency, and reportage have made many Ghanaians feel as though they are present at the polling stations,” the group observed.
COFIIG-Ghana urged political parties, supporters, and the general public to continue exercising restraint, patience, and respect for due process as voting continues into the final hours and results are declared.
The coalition also acknowledged the role of the National Peace Council, civil society organizations, and religious leaders in fostering pre-election dialogue and sensitization, which it said had helped sustain the calm atmosphere in Akwatia.
According to the group, the by-election is not only about electing a parliamentary representative but also about reinforcing Ghana’s reputation for democratic maturity and peaceful coexistence.
