Energy analyst and Chief Executive Officer of African Energy Consortium Limited, Kwame Jantuah has called on the government to take drastic measures now to stem the spread of the deadly COVID-19.
According to Mr Jantuah, the measures already put in place by the government has largely slowed down the rate of infections but more drastic measures are needed before the peak of the infection.
Ghana has so far recorded 27 cases of the coronavirus disease with two deaths. Globally the coronavirus has affected over 280, 000 people with over 16, 000 deaths.
China, Italy, USA, Spain, Germany and the UK are the worst-hit countries in the world with South Africa and Egypt the hardest-hit countries on the African continent.
Speaking on GHONE TV Tuesday, Mr Jantuah told host Lantam Papanko that Accra and Kumasi that have recorded more cases of the COVID-19 must be partially locked down.
“If we are not locking down Accra and Kumasi, we should partially lock it down…we have put some measures in place but going into the next stage, we need to be more drastic, we cant get to the stage that South Africa has gotten,” Mr Jantuah said.
All social gatherings have been banned by the President with Ghana’s borders also closed to traffic. People arriving in the country locked for a 14-day mandatory quarantine.
The Ghana Tourism Authority on Monday also ordered the indefinite closure of all beaches across the country as part of measures to slow the spread of the COVID-19 disease.
