Mozambique prepares for a new chapter as the Constitutional Council is set to officially declare Daniel Francisco Chapo

as President-elect on December 23, 2024.

This pivotal moment comes amidst

challenges of unrest and external interference, but with a steadfast vision for stability,

progress, and sovereignty, President-elect Chapo is ready to lead Mozambique into a

brighter future.

Chapo’s professional journey—marked by his legal expertise, extensive governance

experience, and deep community engagement—has uniquely equipped him to unify Mozambique and ensure inclusive development. His leadership reflects a commitment to protecting the nation’s sovereignty while fostering regional collaboration and global partnerships.

Mozambique’s Challenges: A Nation Under Pressure The post-election unrest has caused significant disruptions, with growing evidence

suggesting external actors are leveraging local dissent to destabilize Mozambique and

exploit its resources.

These disruptions have already had measurable consequences:

1. Economic Growth Threatened: The IMF has revised Mozambique’s 2024 growth

projection downward from 4.3%, citing the unrest’s impact on key industries (IMF,

2024).

2. Industrial Disruptions: South32’s Mozal Aluminium Smelter and Syrah Resources’

Graphite Mine have faced shutdowns, significantly affecting exports and investor

confidence.

3. Rising Inflation: Inflation is expected to rise from 3.1% in 2024 to 5.4% in 2025 due

to supply chain disruptions.

4. Humanitarian Impact: Over 100 lives have been lost, and countless families have

been displaced by the violence.

5. Regional Repercussions: Disruptions in trade corridors have affected neighboring

countries such as Zimbabwe and Malawi, with ripple effects on Southern Africa’s

economy.

Exposing External Interference: Protecting Sovereignty

Emerging evidence reveals coordinated external efforts to destabilize Mozambique and

gain access to its vast resources:

– Resource Exploitation: Mozambique’s abundant reserves of natural gas, graphite,

and precious minerals are at the center of these orchestrated campaigns.

– Undermining Governance: External players are fueling dissent to weaken the ruling

party and disrupt Mozambique’s unity.

– Regional Destabilization: These efforts threaten not only Mozambique but the entire

Southern African region by disrupting trade, energy supply, and security frameworks.

President-elect Chapo stated: “This unrest is not just an attack on Mozambique but on

the sovereignty of Southern Africa. We will not allow our future to be dictated by those

who seek to divide us and exploit our resources.”

Chapo’s Vision for a Unified, Prosperous Mozambique With his unparalleled expertise in law, governance, and community leadership, President-elect Chapo is prepared to lead Mozambique toward lasting stability anddevelopment. His administration will focus on:

1. Strengthening Governance: Implementing transparent policies that ensure

Mozambique’s wealth benefits its citizens.

2. Restoring Investor Confidence: Creating a safe and predictable environment for

international investments.

3. Empowering Communities: Expanding access to quality education, healthcare, and

infrastructure to improve livelihoods.

4. Enhancing Regional Cooperation: Collaborating with SADC partners on shared

goals such as trade integration and security.

A Call for Unity and Global Support

International organizations, including the African Union (AU) and United Nations (UN),

have emphasized the importance of Mozambique’s stability in maintaining regional peace and progress. Their recognition of Mozambique’s commitment to democratic

principles reinforces the nation’s role as a trusted partner in Southern Africa.

President-elect Chapo reaffirmed this vision: “Mozambique’s future lies in our unity, resilience, and commitment to progress. Together, with our people, neighbors, and

global partners, we will rebuild stronger and ensure a brighter future for all.”
