The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has rejected the re-collated parliamentary election results declared by the Electoral Commission (EC) for several constituencies.
This follows the EC’s ongoing re-collation of results at its regional office in Accra. The commission has declared results in seven constituencies, with all seven constituencies going in favor of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
These constituencies include Ahafo Ano North, Techiman South, Ahafo Ano South West, Nsawam Adoagyiri, Obuasi East, Okaikwei Central, and Tema Central.
In the press release,the NDC labeled the results as “a blatant assault on Ghana’s democratic principles” and “a betrayal of the sovereign will of the Ghanaian people”.
The party alleged that the EC, under Jean Mensa’s leadership, has consistently chosen a path of illegality and impunity, compromising its mandate and deepening public mistrust. The NDC also criticized the EC’s disregard for a Stay of Execution order, describing it as a “flagrant violation of the law”.
In the statement, signed by General Secretary of the NDC, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the party expressed its disappointment with the National Peace Council and other moral bodies for their silence on the matter. The NDC also called on the international community to take note of the EC’s actions, which pose a significant threat to Ghana’s peace, stability, and democratic progress.
The party further reaffirmed its commitment to defending the will of the people and ensuring justice prevails, cautioning the government and the EC against further attempts to undermine Ghana’s democracy. The NDC vowed to continue mobilizing its supporters and rallying Ghanaians to resist any attempts to overturn the people’s mandate.
