A decomposing body of an adult male, believed to be in his 40s, was discovered floating on the Volta River near the Volta Rail Bridge at Senchi in the Asuogyaman District in the Eastern region.
The discovery drew the swift coordinated response of various institutions, including the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), the Adomi Senchi Police, the District Environmental Health Department, Ghana Health Services, and the Volta River Authority (VRA) Hospital.
The team was led by Dr. Lawrencia Kekesi, VRA Hospital; Detective Inspector Antoinette Tetteh Asamoah, Adomi Senchi Police; and Mr. Delordson Asafo – District Environmental Health Officer, Ms. Felina Pecku – Ghana Health Services and Mr. David Sosu – NADMO
Upon arrival at the scene, officials carried out the necessary procedures to retrieve and handle the body.
Given its advanced state of decomposition, authorities proceeded with an immediate burial on November 22, 2024, at the Atimpoku Public Cemetery.
The cause of death remains undetermined, but investigations are ongoing to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Akosombo stretch of the Volta River, where the body was found, is known for similar occurrences, often attributed to recreational activities in the area. Authorities continue to caution individuals and hotel owners to exercise vigilance and prioritize safety when engaging in activities near the river.
