The Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has called on peace campaigners to extend their message to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, the Electoral Commission, the judiciary, and security agencies, emphasizing their critical roles in ensuring a peaceful election process.
Speaking at a rally in Kyeikrom, Amenfi Central constituency in the Western Region, Asiedu Nketiah reaffirmed the NDC’s commitment to peaceful elections but stressed the need for transparency and professionalism from all stakeholders.
Addressing a large gathering of NDC supporters, the National Chairman, affectionately known as “General Mosquito,” highlighted the party’s long-standing dedication to peace.
He recalled that since the era of former President Jerry John Rawlings, the NDC has ensured smooth transitions of power. However, he criticized the NPP government for the unfortunate loss of lives during the 2020 elections, which he claimed remains unresolved.
Asiedu Nketiah warned that such instances of injustice, if unaddressed, could lead to unrest. He urged all key players in the upcoming elections to prioritize fairness and professionalism to maintain peace.
The NDC Chairman also reacted to recent court decisions, including the controversy surrounding the vacant parliamentary seat and the case of Amenfi Central’s parliamentary candidate, Joana Gyan Cudjoe.
He cautioned the Chief Justice and judiciary, emphasizing that it is not their role to determine political leadership but to uphold justice impartially. He criticized instances where constitutional interpretations seem biased, urging the courts to remain neutral in their decisions.
Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the NDC parliamentary candidate for Amenfi Central, also addressed the crowd. She expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support she received during her legal battles, which nearly disqualified her from contesting.
She encouraged constituents to vote massively for her and NDC presidential candidate John Mahama, emphasizing the party’s dedication to the welfare of Ghanaians.
