Democracy Hub has issued a statement acknowledging its awareness of the recent altercation at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge Hospital) involving activist Ralph Afful Williams, also known as Fellow Ghanaians.
According to the group, Mr. Williams, who is associated with Democracy Hub, was among those linked to the incident that has since attracted public attention.
The statement noted that the Minister of Health has already held preliminary meetings, including an engagement with Mr. Williams, as part of efforts to gather facts surrounding the matter. It further indicated that a committee has been constituted to investigate the incident thoroughly.
“Democracy Hub remains committed to a transparent process, accountability and the rule of law,” the group emphasized, adding that it will await the outcome of the committee’s findings before making any further public commentary.
The incident at Ridge Hospital occurred on Sunday, August 17, 2025, when Ralph Afful Williams, accompanied by a group of people, reportedly confronted medical staff at the Emergency Unit. The confrontation, which was captured on video and widely circulated on social media, showed heated exchanges between the activist’s group and nurses on duty. The group is said to have accused hospital staff of negligence in attending to a patient, sparking chaos within the facility.
The development has since drawn widespread condemnation from the Ministry of Health, the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, and other professional bodies, all of whom described the assault and interference with medical staff as unacceptable. The Ministry has assured the public that investigations are underway to establish the facts and ensure accountability.
