Professor Baffour Agyemang-Duah CEO of Kuffour Foundation believes democracy remains the most suitable option for Ghana.
Speaking on Morning Starr with Lantam Papanko on Thursday, Prof. Agyemang-Duah shared insights on the strengths and weaknesses of Ghana’s democratic framework.
According to him, “We’ve been practicing this system properly since the inception of the fourth republic. This kind of politicking that we’ve been doing in a multi-party democracy and this is where we are as a country.”
He acknowledged Ghana’s challenges, stating that “we are not in a very, very good position in terms of the well-being of the general citizenry.”
When asked if Ghana’s political system is the best, Professor Agyemang Duah replied, “There is nothing like the best system anywhere in the world. Winston Churchill is the one who said quite beautifully that democracy is the worst form of government except for all the others.”
Emphasizing the importance of working within the democratic framework, Professor Agyemang Duah stated that “in other words, it’s not the best, but amongst the lot that we have is the best. So we cannot run away from that; while Ghana’s political system is not perfect. It’s essential to work within the democratic framework to address the nation’s challenges.”
