The acting Inspector General of Police, James Oppong-Boanuh, has said the police will change their operational procedure following the killing of five policemen over the last 30 days.
According to him, the police will not allow themselves to be intimidated and controlled by criminals.
Mr. Oppong-Boanuh who joined the Interior Minister to visit and commiserate with the families of the two officers who were slain at Kasoa by suspected robbers Wednesday, noted the police will smoke out all individuals involved in the attack on officers.
“Wherever they are, we will smoke them out and we must smoke them out. ..Desperate situations require desperate measures, we will rethink our strategy,” the IGP fumed.
On his part, the Interior minister Ambrose Dery asked the IGP to arm all officers on traffic duty.
Wife of one of the Police officers who were shot and killed by suspected robbers at Kasoa on Wednesday says she “passed out” when news of her husband’s killing reached her.
Mrs. Gyamesi told Starr News but for close family members who were around, the worse could have happened to her.
“I was in shock when I received the news that my husband has been shot. I passed out when the news came in. Fortunately for me, some family members were around and did all they could to help me regain consciousness,” she told Morning Starr Thursday.
Police say the officers met their untimely death when they pursued an unregistered vehicle which had refused to stop after being signaled at a police checkpoint.
The passengers in the car reportedly opened fire on the police personnel killing one in the process and injuring another officer. The police said the other injured officer subsequently gave up the ghost at the hospital.
